World Emotion Map

World Emotion Map visualizes the emotional pulse of global news in real time. Each country is colored by the dominant emotion reported in news media — Joy, Fear, Anger, Sadness, Trust, or Optimism — giving you an instant gestalt of how the world feels right now.

How It Works

  1. 01GDELT GKG processes 100,000+ global news articles per day and extracts emotion signals using natural language processing.
  2. 02We aggregate those signals by country and sector, updated hourly, into our emotion database.
  3. 03The interactive map renders the dominant emotion for each country as a color, updated every hour.

Data Source

Emotion data is sourced from the GDELT Global Knowledge Graph (GKG), a real-time open dataset that monitors the world's news media in 65 languages across 195 countries.

Note: this data reflects news media sentiment, not the actual emotional state of any population. It should not be used as the basis for financial or political decisions.
